Rihanna Covers The September 2018 Issue Of British Vogue

As you know, September issues are important in the fashion world, our largest and most lavish of the year and a real statement about what the coming months will bring.

Essentially, we are taking you on a journey – from our offices in central London, where I invited Bajan superstar Rihanna earlier this summer to talk diva-dom and diversity, to Royal Lodge in Windsor, where Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie welcomed Vogue into the heart of the Royal family.

Rihanna: Style File On a trip home to Richmond, North Yorkshire, supermodel-in-the-making Fran Summers takes us on a tour of the sights that shaped her, from her local state school to the fish-and-chip shop, while Elton John had us join him and fashion BFF Alessandro Michele at his famously luxurious home near London one memorable Sunday morning.

For the first time in some years, David Sims returns to the pages of Vogue to shoot the best of the season’s new oversized pieces.

Then there are the incredible fashion editors – from the legendary Grace Coddington to our own Venetia Scott, Kate Phelan and Poppy Kane, and rising star Julia Sarr-Jamois, who joins Vogue this month as fashion editor-at-large.

Ultimately, September is all about the hits of the season – giving you, the Vogue reader, the authority to make the most informed style choices for the months ahead. As for the cover? I always knew it had to be Rihanna.

A fearless music-industry icon and businesswoman, when it comes to that potent mix of fashion and celebrity, nobody does it quite like her.

Who is Anna Wintour, why does she always wear sunglasses, what's her net worth and when did she meet the Queen?

Who is Anna Wintour, why does she always wear sunglasses, what’s her net worth and when did she meet the Queen?

THE glamorous editor is always seen on the front row of every major fashion show, wearing her trademark dark sunglasses.

Anna Wintour is the 68-year-old editor-in-chief of US Vogue but was born in London, where her father, Charles Wintour, was editor of the Evening Standard – and Anna became interested in fashion in her teens.

She began her fashion journalism career at Harpers & Queen as an Editorial Assistant, then quit and moved to New York, where she became junior fashion editor of US Harper’s Bazaar.

In 2013, Anna became artistic director for Condé Nast, the publisher of Vogue, while keeping her title of editor.

Anna Wintour has a distinctive style – her hair is cut into a blunt bob, and she always wears dark sunglasses.

Anna Wintour is reportedly worth around £25million.

In February 2018, she was sat next to Queen Elizabeth II during the Richard Queen show at the AW18 London Fashion Week.

British Vogue: what we can expect from Edward Enninful as editor

Edward Enninful’s appointment as the new editor of British Vogue marks a huge shift in fashion – a black man at the helm of the most established fashion magazine in Britain is exciting, but not just because of Enninful’s race and gender.

As a stylist, Enninful has worked on countless campaigns for high-fashion houses, including Lanvin, Carolina Herrera and Tiffany & Co, and has held contributing editor positions on the American and Italian editions of Vogue.

On 10 April 2017, Condé Nast announced Enninful would succeed Alexandra Shulman as editor-in-chief of British Vogue, making him the first man to edit the UK edition.

A strong advocate of diversity in the industry, Enninful has spoken of his desire to promote greater racial inclusivity in Vogue.

Ghanian-born Enninful will undoubtably bring more diversity to Vogue.

British Vogue has previously been called out for its lack of diversity in model casting.

If current Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman came from a features background – the daughter of a theatre critic for the Evening Standard, who worked at the Sunday Telegraph and GQ before joining Vogue in 1992 – Enninful’s strength is certainly images, which perhaps signals that there will be a priority shift at Vogue.

Is a Wintour protegee in the frame to be British Vogue boss?

Time for the staff at British Vogue to watch a re-run of The Devil Wears Prada?

For Dame Anna Wintour, who inspired Meryl Streep’s terrifying magazine boss in the hit Hollywood film, is said to be playing a key role in the appointment of British Vogue’s new editor.

According to insiders at Vogue House in Mayfair, one of Wintour’s protegees could become their new boss.

One name in the frame is Sally Singer, who would be the first American to edit the British fashion bible.

She’s the creative digital director of American Vogue, of which Wintour is editor-in-chief.

Dame Anna’s hand was detected in the departure of Alexandra Shulman as editor of British Vogue after 25 years – a quarter of the magazine’s history.

In Absolutely Fashion: Inside British Vogue, they clashed over Wintour’s plans to feature pop star Rihanna on the cover of the U.S. edition.
