Netflix announced Friday it has renewed the reality makeover show for a third season, a move that comes a day after the series scored four Emmy nominations.

The eight-episode third season will begin production Monday in Kansas City, Missouri, Netflix said.

The series, which debuted in February on Netflix, immediately gained praise for its fresh take on the concept that originated on Bravo’s “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” which aired for five seasons.

On Thursday, “Queer Eye” earned Emmy nominations in four categories – outstanding structured reality program, casting, picture editing and cinematography.

A day after it received four Emmy nominations for its inaugural return season on Netflix, the streaming giant has announced a third season pickup of the hit reality series for premiere in 2019.

Production on the eight-episode third season begins production in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 16, with co-hosts Antoni Porowski, Bobby Berk, Karamo Brown, Jonathan Van Ness and Tan France.

The series was honored yesterday with four Emmy nominations in the Structured Reality Program, Casting, Picture Editing and Cinematography categories.

The nominations came 14 years after the groundbreaking series took home its first Emmy for Best Reality Show.

The original Queer Eye for the Straight Guy was a TV phenom at the turn of the century, debuting on Bravo in July 2003 – the year before Massachusetts became the first state to recognize same-sex marriage.

The series returned to Netflix in 2018 going global and introducing audiences around the world to a modern aesthetic, diverse perspectives and a brand new Fab Five.

Jennifer Lane serves as the showrunner and executive producer.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Fab Five of Netflix’s hit show “Queer Eye” will soon be taking over Kansas City.

Netflix announced Friday it has renewed the reality makeover show for a third season that will be filmed right here in KC. For the show’s first two seasons, they traveled throughout Georgia, but now they’re taking on the Midwest.

Mayor Sly James shared the show’s Facebook post announcing the big news on his own page with a welcoming message: “Welcome to KC, Queer Eye! We’re thrilled to have you here in KC as you continue to change lives and bring out the best in everyone. You’ll love our city, and we’re so happy you’re here!”.
