Guardians of the Galaxy Star Is ‘Not OK’ With James Gunn’s Firing

Yesterday, James Gunn was fired from directing the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.

Dave Bautista, who plays Drax the Destroyer in the Guardians franchise, is far less accepting of Disney’s decision to fire his leader, though.

“I will have more to say but for right now all I will say is this James Gunn is one of the most loving, caring, good natured people I have ever met,” he wrote on Twitter.

“He’s gentle and kind and cares deeply for people and animals. He’s made mistakes. We all have. I’m not ok with what’s happening to him.” Fellow Marvel-adjacent actor David Dastmalchian also lamented on Instagram how Gunn is “One of the most amazing people I’ve ever known.”

Dave Bautista has come out in defense of James Gunn following his firing from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.

The director behind the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise was recently fired by Disney over old tweets that date back to as long as ten years ago, but recently resurfaced and caused a great deal of controversy.

Despite that graphic nature of these tweets, Dave Bautista, who plays Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is standing by Gunn.

James Gunn apologized for the tweets and took responsibility for what he said.

The offensive content of those tweets caused a great deal of uproar and Disney fired James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.

For one, James Gunn turned in the script recently and the movie is set to begin production in January.

Disney is very much a family-oriented company and, given the public outcry against James Gunn’s statements and the nature of those statements, they were put in an unenviable position.

Disney chairman Alan Horn said in a statement that Gunn’s nearly decade-old posts were “Indefensible” and “Inconsistent” with the studio’s values, and that all business ties with him were severed as a result.

Gunn first apologized in a series of tweets earlier this week and elaborated in a new statement after his firing.

He explained in part that while his controversial tweets “Don’t reflect the person I am today or have been for some time,” he ultimately accepts Disney’s decision.

“My words of nearly a decade ago were, at the time, totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative,” Gunn’s statement read. He added that he has “Regretted” the posts “For many years since,” calling them “Stupid, not at all funny, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped.”

Bautista isn’t the only member of the Marvel universe sharing their support for Gunn.

“Ant-Man and the Wasp” co-star David Dastmalchian also sounded off on the director’s exile, sharing a photo with Gunn on Instagram alongside a personal testimony.

Dave Bautista has come to the defense of James Gunn after the director was fired from Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.

3.Executives at Disney announced on Friday that the filmmaker had been dropped as the director of the third installment of the Marvel superhero series, after a string of offensive Twitter jokes written between 2008 and 2011 were unearthed by users, with many of the messages making light of sensitive subjects like rape and pedophilia.

Gunn has insisted that the old posts, which have since been deleted, were all intended as ill-conceived jokes, and Bautista, who stars as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy movies, has backed his former colleague.

“He’s gentle and kind and cares deeply for people and animals. He’s made mistakes. We all have. I’m NOT ok with what’s happening to him.”David Dastmalchian, who plays Kurt in the Ant-Man series, took to Instagram to defend Gunn too.

Following Disney’s announcement, Gunn issued a statement in which he explained that he “Regretted” the tweets in question and stressed that “They don’t reflect” who he is today.

“Regardless of how much time has passed, I understand and accept the business decisions taken today. Even these many years later, I take full responsibility for the way I conducted myself then,” the 51-year-old commented.

“All I can do now, beyond offering my sincere and heartfelt regret, is to be the best human being I can be: accepting, understanding, committed to equality, and far more thoughtful about my public statements and my obligations to our public discourse. To everyone inside my industry and beyond, I again offer my deepest apologies. Love to all.”Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.
