Former NHL goalie Ray Emery died this weekend from an apparent drowning.

Emery was reportedly swimming Sunday at the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club in Ontario, where police say his body was discovered after an early morning swim near the docks.

They say he failed to emerge after diving in with a friend … and resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

The NHL Alumni Association tweeted about Emery’s death shortly after the news broke, offering condolences to his friends and family.

Emery played in the NHL from 2003 to 2015, serving as a goaltender for the Ottawa Senators, Philadelphia Flyers, Anaheim Ducks and the Chicago Blackhawks.

Retired NHL goaltender Ray Emery, who helped the Ottawa Senators reach the final in 2007 and won the Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013, drowned in his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario.

Nicknamed “Razor” for his aggressive style, Emery played parts of 11 seasons with the Ottawa Senators, Philadelphia Flyers, Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks from 2003-2015.

Emery played in 326 NHL regular-season and playoff games.

Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas, who knew Emery from junior hockey and the goalie’s stint with the American Hockey League’s Marlies, echoed that sentiment of rooting for him to succeed through his ups and downs.

Emery played in Zac Rinaldo’s charity hockey game Saturday night in Hamilton.

Enforcer-turned-analyst Paul Bissonnette, a teammate with the AHL’s Ontario Reign, said Emery would treat other players to dinner almost every night.

Former NHL goalie Ray Emery was found dead Sunday afternoon at Hamilton Harbor in Ontario after he was reported missing earlier that morning, according to Hamilton Police.

Police are still confirming the cause of death, but reports surfaced that it was presumed drowning.

According to the Hamilton Police Department, Emery was reported missing just after 6 a.m. Sunday in Hamilton Harbour, which is on the western tip of Lake Ontario.

Emery was an Ottawa Senators fourth-round draft pick in 2001.

Nicknamed “Razor” for his aggressive style, Emery helped the Senators to the Stanley Cup Final in 2007 and won a Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2013 as a backup to Corey Crawford.

Emery played in Zac Rinaldo’s charity hockey game Saturday night in Hamilton.

“On behalf of the Ottawa Senators, I wish to express my sincere condolences on the passing of Ray Emery,” Senators owner Eugene Melnyk said in a statement.

“The Blackhawks will fondly remember Ray as a fierce competitor, a good teammate and a Stanley Cup champion,” the team said in a statement.
